Cartoon Brew

Some may say its a little vain to get gmail alerts for anytime their own name is mentioned- and to a degree it is.  But its a big ol' internet out there and I don't have the time or patience to look through it all.  Mostly I get alerts about some high schooler w my name who's a great wrestler, but once in a while there comes a pretty awesome post like this from the dudes over at Cartoon Brew.  I guess they came across the Robbers video Sara Jean and I made and decided to post it.  Thanks guys!

The post is here.

The video is on my site here.

“Super Button Mashers: A Gamer Tribute @ OhNo!ARCADE” is a group exhibition where artists pick a video game (be it arcade or family console) from their past or present and reinterpret in their individual vision. “Super Button Mashers” addresses the history of gaming culture and its effect on today’s generation. Virtually and physically, the “Arcade” represents the town meeting ground and social arena, comparable to that of the circus, festival and neighborhood fair of their day.

Featured Artists: Aya Kakeda, Alex Willan, Ben Spencer (Galaxxor), Blütt, Brandon Garrison, Brain Killer, Brian Stuhr, Brian Walline, Brianne Drouhard, CHema Skandal!, Cory Benhatzel, CZR PRZ, David Palumbo, David Rettker, Eric Broers (phoneticontrol), Glen Brogan, Isaac Bidwell, Jake Elliot, James Liu (Veggiesomething), Jason Castillo, Jenny Frison, Jeremiah Ketner, J.Shea, Joey D, Jordan Elise (Horrible Adorables), Lana Crooks, Leeanna Butcher, Luisa Castellanos (Pock-it Palz), Martin Hsu, Matt Hawkins (Custom Paper Toy), Matthew Ryan Sharp, Max Bare, Melissa Sue Stanley, Mike Budai, Mike Graves, Mr. Walters, Natalie Blue Phillips, Nathan West, Sean Dove, Shawn Smith, Shayne Labadie, Steff Bomb, Steph Laberis, Tyler Coey, Yosiell Lorenzo, Zoë Bare, The Plush Team, and more!

Patrons can enjoy libations from local beer maestros Low Dive as they premiere brand-new brew samples of their BitMap Porter series. Folks line up outside the ON!Arcade grounds as the Duck N Roll food truck makes a planned visit to spread contemporary Asian deliciousness. Robbers Video is Out!!

Robbers from The Laureates on Vimeo.

If we talked anytime in between the months of April and November of 2011, I probably mentioned that Sara and I were working on a video animation, and I'm super proud and happy to finally be able to show it.  The video was done for a local Chicago band called The Laureates.  It was directed, animated, and composited by Sara, shot and edited by Mr. Brian Keller, and illustrated/animated by me.  If you are curious- I hand drew the illustrations one by one on a light box, I scanned each image, removed it from the background, colored it, and sent the layered file to Sara.  Sara then took each layered file and seamlessy (i.e. painstakingly) manipulated them into the real video so that the two interacted without overlap.  It was intense and quite insane at times, but I think we (especially Sara) friggin killed it.  BTW, there were no green screens used in this:)
