Please join OhNo!Doom Gallery on Friday, April 13, 2012 from 6-10pm as we celebrate the eerie side of life with ‘A Walk Through the Dark: Artworks of the Macabre, Strange and Bizarre’.

This show explores the attraction to death and the supernatural that is woven into our human psyche. From Día de los Muertos celebrations to wide spread superstitions to cults and science fiction, we continually confront these unexplained and daunting topics even though they frighten us. We may be attracted to sugar skulls because of their intricate swirling patterns, or perhaps it is a perpetual reminder of our own mortality. Maybe it is as simple as the self-assured feeling we get when we are able to walk out, unharmed and alive, from a scary movie. Whatever the motivating factor may be, the pulse-pounding thrill of being scared keeps us coming back for more.

‘A Walk Through the Dark: Artworks of the Macabre, Strange and Bizarre’ features the works of seven contemporary artists: Jonathan Bergeron, Stephanie Brown, Ego, Steven Fiche, Ben Lyon, Scarecrowoven and Scott Shellhamer. Music will be provided by DJ Paisley Babylon of turntabling.net and special beers will be created and shared by the craft microbrewers at Lowdive Brewery.

If we talked anytime in between the months of April and November of 2011, I probably mentioned that Sara and I were working on a video animation, and I'm super proud and happy to finally be able to show it. The video was done for a local Chicago band called The Laureates. It was directed, animated, and composited by Sara, shot and edited by Mr. Brian Keller, and illustrated/animated by me. If you are curious- I hand drew the illustrations one by one on a light box, I scanned each image, removed it from the background, colored it, and sent the layered file to Sara. Sara then took each layered file and seamlessy (i.e. painstakingly) manipulated them into the real video so that the two interacted without overlap. It was intense and quite insane at times, but I think we (especially Sara) friggin killed it. BTW, there were no green screens used in this:)

Nones single out on the Soundcloud.

If you didn't know, my fiance is the badass drummer for the Chicago band Nones. Their first single on Hozac records- from thier upcoming EP, was just posted on Soundcloud. You had best check it out:
